Today’s guest is someone we’ve had the pleasure of knowing for almost 15 years now and she’s someone who has a very positive impact on communities throughout South Florida. Harlene Zweig is a Certified Public Account (CPA) and one of the co-founders of In Jacob’s Shoes®, a charity that her and her family put all of their efforts into when they aren’t working their day jobs. Through this conversation, we learn about the story of this incredible organization, its impact on the community, and Harlene’s admirable spirit.

In Jacob’s Shoes® began nearly 15 years ago when the Zweig’s tragically lost their son Jacob, and they recently celebrated passing the quarter-million mark for donations. The total has now reached more than 225,000 pairs of shoes, 50,000 pairs of socks, and 12,000 backpacks, and there’s no slowing down in sight.

About Harlene Zweig

Harlene Zweig  is a Florida licensed Certified Public Accountant with over thirty-five years accounting experience. She has a Bachelor of Business Administration and  Master of Accounting. A Chicago native, Harlene moved to South Florida in 1979 and graduated with honors from Florida Atlantic University where she also taught accounting as an adjunct professor. Harlene has been a member of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants for thirty years.

Harlene is co-founder and President of In Jacob’s Shoes, a 501(c)(3) non-profit formed in loving memory of her son, Jacob S. Zweig. In Jacob’s Shoes provides local children in need with shoes, backpacks and school supplies.

Harlene has served as an Advisory Board Member and Gala Co-Chair of Kids In Distress, Treasurer of Congregation Kol Tikvah Sisterhood, Board Member of the Parkland Friend’s of the Library and member of Zonta of Deerfield Beach.  She has been awarded the Shining Star Award by The Rotary Club of Coral Springs/Parkland, Hometown Hero Award by the Alzheimer’s Family Center, Citizen of The Year by the Broward County School Social Workers Association and the Medal of Merit by the Sovereign Order of St. Johns of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller.

Harlene has lived with her husband and children in Parkland for over twenty-five years.
